Samsung has unveiled the world's first solar-powered fully touch screen phone.Made
from recycled plastic water bottles, the 'Blue Earth' mobile is charged
with a solar panel on the back. The company claims this provides enough
electricity to make a call 'anytime, anywhere'. The screen brightness, backlight duration and Bluetooth can be set to an energy-efficient mode with one click.

The handset also has an 'eco walk' function that counts the user's
steps with an in-built pedometer. It then calculates how much CO2
emissions have been reduced (and therefore how many trees have been
saved) by walking rather than driving.
In keeping with its eco-friendly image the Electronics Giant said it
had has been 'designed to symbolize a flat and well rounded shiny
pebble.'The device and extra charger are free from harmful substances such as Brominated Flame Retardants, Beryllium and Phthalate.'Samsung's
'The Blue Earth Dream' demonstrates our small but meaningful
commitments for the future and our environment,' Samsung mobile chief
Mr JK Shin said.There is no word on price but the phone will be available in the UK in the second half of 2009.
